While the confrontation between Russia and the West is increasing, accompanied by the introduction of new anti-Russian sanctions, Russia has a chance to achieve real economic growth, said political scientist and leader of the social and political movement the Essence of Time Sergey Kurginyan in an interview with the Donetsk Union Reserve TV channel, aired on February 5.
Kurginyan reminded that pro-Western forces, who claim to be the statesmen, still remain influential in today’s Russia. This part of the elite believes that Russia should join and become part the West as a united and powerful state. They see potential for future technical progress and economic growth in this.
The political scientist is sure that the only opportunity to achieve real deep economic growth in Russia with a transition to a moderate autarky will arise if Russia separates from the West and adopts its own independent strategic development program.
“Russia can now implement a program with 6-8% annual growth, but to make it happen Russia needs to cut all these ropes, nerve fibers, cables that bind us with the West. This has to be done decisively and once and for all. Then real growth will begin, and then Russia will rely upon its concept of the good. And now it looks as if the good is in the West, but it’s not that good out there, and Russians are being condemned,” said the expert.
Until then, the fate of the country and re-Sovietized society will be controlled by pro-Western elites.
“This suspended position is the legacy of Andropov and Kuusinen, followed by Gorbachev for 100%, Yeltsin – 100%, and then the initial Putin period until approximately 2006-2007. This legacy prevails over the Russian elite, While the population is 90% anti-Western. Therefore, even the rhetoric that is used is sort of anti-Western, but the course remains Western,” Kurginyan concluded.
