The population of Donbass pays a price for being Russians; and therefore, it comprehends the meaning of being Russians more accurately within the concept of “Russian Donbass,” political scientist and leader of the “Essence of Time” movement Sergey Kurginyan said on January 29 in the Politkukhnya program on the TK Union TV channel.
“A concept is something that always unites all the groups that wish good for their people. Everything happens in relation to certain concepts, which then need to be implemented. Doctrine, strategy and practical measures,” the political scientist responded to a journalist’s question about the practical meaning of the “Russian Donbass” concept.
Kurginyan emphasized the importance of the fact that Donbass went in for the concept. He reminded that one should not expect immediate changes in everyday life: taxes will not be lowered tomorrow by the adoption of the concept. Tax cuts can come as a result of bringing the concept to life, he warned.
According to the philosopher, Donbass population is the narrative of Russian civilization. So, it is very important that they are thinking about the “Russian Donbass” concept. Kurginyan explained what he means by “narrative”.
The famous English historian Arnold Toynbee developed his theory of the Geneses of Civilizations. According to him, a special group of the population, the so-called narrative, responds to civilizational challenges. This kind of groups are particularly sensitive to such historical challenges and find new forms of existence, the political scientist said. Kurginyan urged not to confuse this notion with the postmodernist narrative.
“Donbass is a narrative of Russian civilization, it is its frontier. In fact, you live on a civilizational seam… And inside this seam arises a population that pays for being Russians,” Kurginyan continued. A Russian who is living in, say, Vologda, is unlikely to pay for being Russian, but the population of Donbass is obviously paying, he believes.
In this case, the new narrative will be able to respond to the challenges to Russian civilization, because it “feels ‘Russianness’ as such more precisely and begins to conceive it,” the political scientist emphasized the role of the Russian Donbass.
In addition, Kurginyan assumed that sooner or later Russia may reintegrate Donbass: “Never say never. A lot can happen, why not?” – he answered the question about the possibility of reintegration of Donbass to Russia.
