UK court’s decision to extradite Julian Assange to the USA can result in his suicide, Assange’s lawyer Edward Fitzgerald said on February 24 at an open session of the court.
The lawyer cited the opinion of the psychiatrist’s who examined Assange. The expert expressed concern that the defendant might make a desperate decision.
“If extradition to the United States were to become imminent, Mr Assange would find a way of suiciding,” the lawyer cited the doctor.
The lawyer told the court that in the USA his client will face “inhuman” treatment without any hope for justice.
On February 24, the Woolwich crown court in south-east London heard the case of the extradition of the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange from the UK to the USA. The USA authorities accuse Assange of divulging state secrets.
