By rejecting the Soviet past, Ukraine is moving towards self-destruction, because no other country of the former Soviet Union is determined by its Soviet being as much as Ukraine, political scientist and leader of the Essence of Time social and political movement Sergey Kurginyan said on December 9 on the air of the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV program on the Russia One channel.
He explained that any country and any statehood is based on its historic being, and a lack of this historic being means the lack of a people’s spirit, and then no statehood can arise, because statehood is not something formal, but “it consists of this historic being.”
According to Kurginyan, any country of the former Soviet Union is inevitably connected with the Soviet period, which cannot be abandoned without the country’s self-destruction.
“None, absolutely no single country of the former Soviet Union is determined by its Soviet being as much as Ukraine. Armenia can refer to some Tigran or whoever else, Georgia to Queen Tamara, somebody else to Manas. Here (in Ukraine), no great references are possible except for Soviet Ukraine. To de-Sovietize Ukraine means to de-Ukrainize the real Ukraine. No one should do so, and Ukrainians especially. This black hole is the end of Ukrainian history,” Kurginyan stressed.
According to the political scientist, if anyone from the Ukrainian establishment wished to create a Ukrainian statehood, not a simulated, but a real statehood, he would have to use the Soviet period as a basis and say that Ukraine has its deepest roots in it.
He added that instead of doing so (using the Soviet period as a basis ― Rossa Primavera News Agency), the current Ukrainian political elite initiated the Leninfall (mass toppling of Lenin statues ― Rossa Primavera News Agency), despite the fact that Ukraine owes its existence to Lenin.
The leader of Essence of Time explained that without rejecting de-Sovietization the spirit of the Ukrainian people cannot be preserved, because it becomes unclear what kind of a spirit it is, and all the Bandera madness emerges, but this Bandera madness cannot create a new great Ukraine.
“Then, a total clearing operation is necessary, along with mass repressions, which require a border. But these mass repressions cannot be carried out in the 21st century. Therefore, Donbass cannot be defeated. As soon as you want to incorporate it one way or another, you have to grant excessive rights to it. However, even having regular rights, it will dramatically change Ukrainian policy, which is unacceptable for the current establishment,” Sergey Kurginyan concluded.
In 2014, groups relying on radical forces and the Bandera ideology came to power in Ukraine as a result of a coup d’etat. A total rewriting of history pertaining to the Soviet period and the milestones of the Great Patriotic War followed.
With the submission of the majority of the Ukrainians, the accomplices of the German occupants were acknowledged as heroes. Only Donbass strongly retaliated against the destruction of its historical memory.
