Protesters in Minsk gathered again for a street demonstration against the integration of Belarus with Russia on December 8, reports Rossa Primavera News Agency.
Police officers politely ask the crowd to disperse. The protesters shout out: “We don’t understand!”
The action takes place on Oktyabrskaya Square near the Palace of the Republic. Protesters express their dissatisfaction with the plans for closer cooperation between Belarus and Russia.
The participants chant “Independence!”, “This is our country!”, “Long live Belarus”, echoing the speakers from the podium. Several hundred people gathered on the square.
The protests against “deep integration” with Russia in the context of the meeting between presidents of Russia and Belarus began on December 7.
In addition, researchers from the Moscow State Institute of International Relations conducted a survey among Belorussian citizens, in the course of which they found out that the majority of respondents consider an alliance or at least partnership with Russia a necessity.
