The arms race initiated by the NATO countries is a threat to the world. Russia and China have an answer to the emerging threats, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Lavrov said on December 5 at the meeting of the OSCE foreign ministers in Bratislava.
Lavrov recalled the NATO summit that has ended in London, which decided to grossly increase the military budgets of the member states. “NATO believes that it is the source of legitimacy, and it is trying to convince everyone that this role has no alternatives,” the Russian foreign minister said.
“It is absolutely clear to us that NATO wants to dominate on the globe removing any competitors,” he added. Lavrov stressed that Russia and China have an answer to the emerging threats without joining the arms race.
The foreign minister said that the USA blocks in the UN the consideration of the Russian-Chinese draft treaty to prevent arms race in the outer space.
Lavrov recalled again that Russia proposes the principle of common security, which includes mutual respect to interests without any separation lines. He expressed regret that the countries of the alliance “do not want to accept documents that would make this principle legally binding.” According to Lavrov, NATO is only ready to guarantee security for its own members.
The meeting of the OSCE Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) is taking place in Bratislava. This is a site for dialogue between the member states. CFM decisions are not legally binding. At the event, the Russian foreign minister plans to have bilateral talks with his foreign colleagues.
