The US representatives expressed their support for the territorial integrity of Libya “in the face of Russia’s attempts to exploit the conflict against the will of the Libyan people” during the talks with Libya’s Government of National Accord (GNA) in Washington DC on November 14, stated the joint communique.
The US delegation spoke on behalf of “a number of US government agencies” and called on the Libyan National Army (LNA) to end the offensive in Tripoli. This will prevent the “undue” foreign interference in Libyan affairs and strengthen the “legitimate” power, stressed in the address
The position of the Government of National Accord (GNA) was announced in the beginning of the document.
The GNA is concerned over the security situation, as well as the fact that this situation affects civilians. The Libyan government did not make other provisions to this document.
On November 10, the GNA representative told Bloomberg News that it was not possible to defeat the LNA and end the civil war due to the fact that Russia supported the LNA with its mercenaries. Prior to that, on November 6, The New York Times wrote that based on a type of bullet wounds, Libyan officials and Western diplomats came to the conclusion that 200 fighters from Russia arrived in Libya. On November 7, the Russian Foreign Ministry denied this statement.
