There is violence in the society; however, in contrast to feminists’ statements, the family is the safest place for a person, All-Russian Research Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (Russian: MVD) of the Russian Federation expert Elena Timoshina said on October 15 during hearings at the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation, a correspondent of the Rossa Primavera News Agency reports.
The Civic Chamber members discussed a domestic violence bill proposed to the State Duma of the Russian Federation. The bill is aggressively lobbied by feminists who insist that the family in Russia is a great danger for women.
The criminologist noted that reality disproves such statements. Speaking before the participants of the discussion, the expert said that “the number of crimes committed in the family is lower than outside the family.” Timoshina referred to the statistics of the Main Information and Analysis Center of the MVD, which she believes prove that “the woman is better protected in the family.”
“In 2018, 250,647 violent crimes were officially reported, of which 107,450 were against women and 29,046 against minors.
Among the violent crimes against women, 24,478 crimes were committed by their family members, which is 22.8%. This includes all: children, uncles, aunts, nephews.
13,442 women, or 12.5%, suffered (not were killed, but simply suffered from violence) from their spouses,” Timoshina reported.
The criminologist provided separate statistics on the level of domestic violence against children. “Among 29,046 violent crimes against minors, their family members (including all relatives) committed 5,070 crimes, or 17.5%. Of these, the parents [committed] 3,328 crimes, or 11.5%,” the MVD expert said.
She stressed that the reported statistics do not mean that there is no need to fight violence in the society, but it only proves that the family is the safest place for a person. “Of course, we are not saying that these figures are low, not at all.
We acknowledge the problem of violence in our society. What I want to say is that in the family this problem is less serious than elsewhere. Over 80% of violent crimes are committed outside the family”.
Speaking on October 15 at the public hearings “Traditional Values as the Basis of Family, Resolution of Family Conflicts”, Elena Timoshina also reported statistics on the number of women who became victims of their close relatives in 2018.
