The initiative of the Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadim Pristayko of a Cyprus-like version of Ukraine’s structure suites Russia and Donbass quite well, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on October 9 on the air of the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV program on the Russia One channel.
Commenting the words of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadim Pristayko about Donbass, Kurginyan urged the leaders of the DPR and the LPR “to hear that this is a malignant tumor, and to respond appropriately, and to carefully listen to the words about the Cyprus-like option, i.e. about the separation of territories.”
The political scientist believes that Ukraine does not plan to and is not able to fulfill the Minsk agreements. Kurginyan stressed that “no international forces will ever be deployed there.” “You can forget it right now,” he stressed, noting that in this situation the Ukrainian foreign minister’s idea about a Cyprus-like option is great.
“The third option is Cyprus-like, why not? This immediately makes me supporter of Mr. Pristayko,” the expert stressed.
The island of Cyprus is a territory separated between three states: Turkey (the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus), the UK (the Dhekelia and the Akrotiri air bases), and Cyprus itself. In addition, about 3.7 per cent of the island’s territory is a buffer zone controlled by the UN.
