The U.S.’s role in the world is changing not to its benefit, because the world itself is changing, but not because of hostile encirclement, Yuri Rogulev, Director of the Franklin Roosevelt Foundation for the study of the USA at the Moscow State University said on September 6 on the air of the Vesti FM radio station commenting the speech of Kirstjen Nielsen, U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, regarding their new strategy to combat terrorism and organized crime.
Rogulev said that this is not the first declaration of this kind from U.S. politicians and not the last one, “Until the U.S. authorities understand the futility of their efforts (to preserve the unipolar world ― Rossa Primavera News Agency), unfortunately, declarations and strategies of this kind (to combat all enemies and restore the U.S.’s unipolar world and the century of the United States once again) will continue to take place for quite a long time.”
Answering the question of the radio host on what Nielsen means by saying that the U.S. authorities have to “recognize that the “home game” and “away game” are no longer distinct. They are one and the same”, the U.S. studies scientist noted that there is nothing new in the words of the politician. The U.S. has been doing it for a long time. Rogulev reminded that along with 800 military bases, special forces, the CIA and the NSA, are operating around the world, which were listening to the telephone calls even of their allies.
The expert also mentioned CIA’s secret prisons located in various countries of the world, where the U.S. special agencies were illegally holding detainees they suspected in terrorist actions.
Rogulev believes that the U.S.’s desire to preserve the unipolar world is their ideology, the main part of which was formed after the collapse of the USSR when the U.S. removed the obstacles to constructing the world under the U.S. model. “That’s what their ideology was built on. And the U.S. government still has the people supporting the ideology. These are neocons, neoconservatives believing that the main principles of their country should be promoted all around the world, notwithstanding any resistance and using all possible measures, including military actions or force.”
According to the expert, here we see the misrepresentative consciousness, “This is the ideological concept of the world, where the U.S. is placed into its center. In such a U.S.-centered world, the U.S. believes that it has the best system, which it can export, and it has to put all its efforts to do this. And everyone who differs even for a bit from the U.S. is placed to the category of an enemy. It is really a very dangerous strategy.”
On September 5, 2018, Kirstjen Nielsen, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, had a speech at George Washington University, and she said that soon the White House would present its new counter-terrorist strategy, which should become a warning for the U.S. enemies.
