The assassination attempt on Venezuela’s President also targeted the country’s Armed Forces high command, said Venezuelan Prosecutor General Terek William Saab on August 5, Associated Press reports.
“We are in the midst of a new civil war in Venezuela,” the politician said. He added that the investigation has already collected enough information from the detained suspects to catch the remaining ones.
Earlier, the Venezuelan government named members of the local far-right, who collaborated with Colombian right-wing radicals led by President Juan Manuel Santos, guilty of the assassination attempt on Nicholas Maduro. The Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs refuted this accusation.
The “Flannel Soldiers” group has assumed responsibility for the assassination attempt on the head of state.
