13 women and 28 children from Russia were found in Iraq, the Head of the Chechen Republic Ramzan Kadyrov wrote on his Instagram page on December 19.
“Ziyad Muhammadovich has located a new group of Russians in one of the Iraqi camps. There are 13 women and 28 young children. Of the women, there is only one who is a native of Chechnya. Most women and children are from Dagestan. There are also residents of Moscow and Bryansk region in the list“, Kadyrov wrote.
Kadyrov said that, in addition, efforts are being undertaken to repatriate another 49 children and 26 women from Iraq to Russia.
In summer 2017, Russia and Iraq agreed on cooperation to rescue and save Russian children in the war zones. The agreement was reached in Moscow during the meeting between Mikhail Fedotov, the Chairman of the Council for Civil Society and Human Rights (HRC), and Haidar Mansour Hadi, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to the Russian Federation.
The issue of young children in the territory of Iraq arose parents, who joined terrorist organizations, took their children there with them. When the Iraqi army captured Mosul city, many parents abandoned their children and fled the city or died. According to the statement of the children’s ombudswoman of the Russian Federation Anna Kuznetsova, there are about five hundred Russian children in Iraq. The list of such children keeps getting longer. In addition, according to Kadyrov, Russia is the only country in the world which takes effort to return children and women taken illegally to war zones in the Middle East.
