Russia will continue providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Yemen, reads the statement released by the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry on its official website on November 30, 2017.
This statement was made following a meeting between Mikhail Bogdanov, the Russian President’s Special Representative for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ahmed Salem Al-Wahishi, Yemeni Ambassador to Moscow. The Ministry expressed a clear official position regarding further assistance to the Republic of Yemen, “Russia is determined to continue to take an active part in delivering humanitarian assistance to the people of the Republic of Yemen.”
In addition, according to the Foreign Ministry website, “a substantive exchange of opinions took place on the development of the military and political situation in Yemen, with an emphasis on possibilities to settle the ongoing conflict in this country through a broad inclusive national dialogue with due regard for the interests of all major political forces in Yemen”.
Since September 2014, Yemen has been devastated by a civil war between Houthi forces and government troops. On February 26, 2015, a coalition of Arab states led by Saudi Arabia intervened in Yemen’s civil war.
