Russian Aerospace Forces have eliminated 60 mercenaries south of Deir ez-Zor, said Chief Spokesman of Russian Defense Ministry Major General Igor Konashenkov on October 7, RIA News reports.
“To the South of Deir ez-Zor in the Euphrates river valley, an airstrike has destroyed a group of more than 60 foreign mercenaries of CIS, Tunis, and Arab Republic of Egypt origin. Also, 12 off-road vehicles armed with large-caliber weapons were destroyed,” the official report says.
On September 5, Syrian Government Forces broke Deir ez-Zor siege with the support of Russian Aerospace Forces. The city of Deir ez-Zor was besieged by ISIL terrorist group (organization banned in Russia) for more than three years. On September 18, the Syrian army crossed the Euphrates river and liberated multiple localities in the area.
Earlier on October 7, an elimination of 80 militants including 9 of North Caucasus origin near the city of Mayadin in the Deir ez-Zor province was reported.
