With the help of American weapons, Kiev will be able to return Donbas, claimed Pyotr Poroshenko, Interfax-Ukraine reports on September 18.
The Ukrainian President made this statement during his speech at the West Point United States Military Academy (USMA). “Above all, the American weaponry will help us liberate Donbass and retrieve Ukrainian territories”, – said Poroshenko. In debate to the Russian standpoint on the supply of lethal weaponry to Ukraine by the U.S., according to which such step will lead to further conflict escalation, Poroshenko declared it to be “absolute falsehood” and stated that the decision to begin such supplies will help save more Ukrainian lives.
Kiev already tried to resolve the conflict in Donbas by military means twice before, and both times the self-defense forces of Lugansk People’s Republic and Donetsk People’s Republic forced Kiev to partake in peaceful negotiations, the result being the Minsk Protocol.
The Senate of United States agreed on assigning $500 million for support of Ukraine in the field of Defense and Security on September 18, 2017.
