A bill to counteract the “Blue Whale” game is introduced to the Argentinian Parliament
The Argentinian parliament member wrote, that the bill “not only toughens the punishment, but it also provides instruments for law enforcement agencies” to effectively counteract those plotting to push young users to suicide through games in social networks.
Reports of “Blue Whale” appearing have come from Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Estonia, and other former Soviet countries, as well as China, Spain and the Great Britain.
In mid-April, Brazilian media informed, that national law enforcement agencies are investigating a number of teenager and youth suicide cases, connected with the “Blue Whale” game and so-called “death groups”. Afterwards, other Latin American countries started to report on similar cases.
In late May, the Russian State Duma passed a bill through which games like “Blue Whale” and “death groups” in social networks are subject to criminal liability. At the same time, Instagram and VKontakte managers deleted all posts with hashtags having a slightest relation to the “Blue Whale” game.
