Putin ratifies agreements with China on the creation of a scientific lunar station

Russian President Vladimir Putin ratified the agreement with China on the joint establishment of the International Scientific Lunar Station (ISLS), the relevant document was posted on June 12 on the website of legal acts.

A memorandum of understanding between the governments of Russia and China on cooperation for the construction of the International Scientific Lunar Station was signed back in March 2021. A corresponding roadmap was developed. In November 2022, an agreement on the station’s creation was signed. Vladimir Putin approved it.

The project will be implemented by Roscosmos and the Chinese National Space Administration. Three stages of realization are planned. Among other things, it is planned to develop the Earth’s satellite, expand the functionality of the station’s modules, and assist international partners in the human landing on the Moon.

In 2023, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Venezuela, South Africa, Pakistan and Egypt also joined the project. In the spring of 2024, Turkey also announced its desire to join the project.
