Russian Foreign Ministry says it does not rule out cooperation with Afghanistan within CSTO framework

04.06.2024, Moscow.

The Russian Foreign Ministry does not rule out cooperation with Afghanistan within the Collective Security Treaty Organization, Zamir Kabulov, director of its second Asia Department, told during a press conference on June 4.

So far, there has been no such cooperation. However, it could be based on the same attitude toward fighting international terrorism and drug crime, Kabulov said.

Therefore, the diplomat said, he did not hypothetically rule out that such cooperation was possible.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that the country’s leadership is going to remove the Taliban (organization banned in Russia) from the list of banned organizations. According to Kabulov, the Russian Foreign Ministry and the Ministry of Justice have already worked on this issue and sent a corresponding proposal to the presidential administration.

A delegation headed by the Afghan labor minister intends to attend the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
