Kurginyan: Russian authorities alienated patriots with mandatory vaccination

03.03.2022, Moscow.

The pension reform and the mandatory vaccination broke communication between the Russian authorities and the most conservative and patriotic part of the public, said political scientist, philosopher and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan in The Meaning of the Game original broadcast published on the movement’s YouTube channel on March 1.

According to the political scientist, in the context of the special operation in Ukraine, the authorities are making a mistake when they overestimate the public influence of “the so-called statist information warriors.” “To my deepest regret, these warriors have discredited themselves seriously when they supported the pension reform and even more so when they supported the outrageous vaccination,” Kurginyan explained.

According to the expert, a political approach to the mandatory vaccination issue is necessary, leaving aside its efficacy. Approximately 60% of the Russian population have vaccinated for the coronavirus, which is a smaller fraction than in the West. Of these, according to Kurginyan, at least 30% either bought vaccination certificates or got vaccinated under strong pressure from administrative repressions.

Thus, 40% of the Russian population refused to vaccinate, and another 20% were forced to vaccinate. “And it is not clear which of these two subpopulations is more disappointed with what happened. Because they had to pay for the certificates, and because those who were forced to vaccinate cannot love those who forced them,” the political scientist noted.

People who opposed the mandatory vaccination usually belong to the most conservative part of the society who previously always supported Putin, Kurginyan believes.

“And it is them that the stars of our statist ideological and information cohort treated the worst. They seriously insulted this part of our population. And it responded with a break of communication,” he stressed.

This part of the society migrated to the Internet, and it stopped watching state-run TV channels. “I will watch what I want, but I will not watch those who insult me. This is called break of communication.”

The political scientist expressed concern that in this pivotal time for our country the communication between the authorities and the subpopulation they always relied on is broken or strongly damaged. “And we have no feverish patriotic excitation in this subpopulation even now, in the beginning of the events. And if we have to continue the special operation for a long period, we will definitely have a negative trend,” the leader of Essence of Time concluded.

On June 24, the host of the show Full Contact on the Vesti FM radio station Vladimir Solovyov called people who supported actor Egor Beroev in his opposition to mandatory vaccination “bastards”.

On October 21, 2021, Editor-in-Chief of RT Margarita Simonyan posted an address to the opponents of mandatory vaccination blaming them for potential death of their children. “Stifle yourselves on mechanical ventilators, crawl with a saturation of 70% in the corridors of crowded hospitals, it is your problem,” she wrote.
