Buchenwald Alarm Bells (1958)

This is another powerful anti-war song, sung by the great Muslim Magomaev.
It is about the victims of the Buchenwald concentration camp.
It was over its gates that the infamous slogan Jedem das Seine (“to each its own”) was written… For those of you who have never heard about the place, there is a Wikipedia page: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buche…
Although dozens or maybe even hundreds of thousands died in this hellish place, the translator, Olga Yurchenko, wants to dedicate this video to one of its few German inmates, Ernst Thälmann.

He was born 130 years ago, on 16th April, 1886 the leader of the German Communist Party (KPD) and one of Hitler’s political opponents who wanted to overthrow him. In 1933 he was arrested and spent the next 11 years of his life in a solitary confinement. He was executed in Buchenwald in 1944.
There is a monument in Moscow: http://enjoyit.ru/files/samsung-galax…
We are going to lay flowers there next Saturday.
May the memory of the hero live forever!

Lyrics — Aleksandr Sobolev

Music — Vano Muradeli

Artist — Muslim Magomaev

Translation — Olga Yurchenko

For a minute everybody stand up!

Listen now, listen now, it’s going all around —

In the Buchenwald camp bells are tolling,

And they’re getting loud, and they’re getting loud!

It’s the sacred blood that is reborn here,

Getting strong with bells to sing its pain.

It’s the ashes turning into people —

Victims rise again, victims rise again.

They have risen,

They have risen,

Risen up again!

They have risen,

They have risen,

Risen up again!

Ljudi mira, na minutu vstan’te!

Slushajte, slushajte: gudit so vsekh storon —

Eto razdajotsja v Bukhenval’de

Kolokol’nyj zvon, kolokol’nyj zvon.

Eto vozrodilas’ i okrepla

V mednom gule pravednaja krov’.

Eto zhertvy ozhili iz pepla

I vosstali vnov’, i vosstali vnov’.

I vosstali,

I vosstali,

I vosstali vnov’!

I vosstali,

I vosstali,

I vosstali vnov’!

Those burnt alive in hellish furnace

Fall in rank, fall in rank

In hundreds of thousands lines.

People of different countries stand together

And they talk to us, and they talk to us.

Can you hear the roaring of the thunder?

It is neither storm nor hurricane.

An atomic vortex in the ocean,

Howling in pain, groaning in pain.

It is groaning,

It is groaning.

Ocean’s in pain.

It is groaning,

It is groaning,

Ocean’s in pain.

Sotni tysjach zazhivo sozhzhjonnykh

Strojatsja, strojatsja

V sherengi k rjadu rjad.

Internatsional’nye kolonny

S nami govorjat, s nami govorjat.

Slyshite gromovye raskaty?

Eto ne groza, ne uragan.

Eto, vikhrem atomnym ob’jatyj,

Stonet okean, Tikhij okean.

Eto stonet,

Eto stonet,

Tikhij okean.

Eto stonet,

Eto stonet,

Tikhij okean.

For a minute everybody stand up!

Listen now, listen now, it’s going all around —

In the Buchenwald camp bells are tolling,

And they’re getting loud, and they’re getting loud!

‘Round the whole Earth the sound is spreading,

In the air like a swarm of bees.

Everybody wake up and watch out,

And preserve the peace, and preserve the peace!

Guard the peace,

Guard the peace,

Always guard the peace!

Guard the peace,

Guard the peace,

Always guard the peace!

Ljudi mira, na minutu vstan’te!

Slushajte, slushajte: idut so vsekh storon —

Eto razdajotsja v Bukhenval’de

Kolokol’nyj zvon, kolokol’nyj zvon.

Zvon plyvjot, plyvjot nad vsej Zemljoju,

I gudit vzvolnovanno efir:

Ljudi mira, bud’te zorche vtroe,

Beregite mir, beregite mir!

Beregite,

Beregite,

Beregite mir!

Beregite,

Beregite,

Beregite mir!
