Israel’s internal security and counterintelligence service Shin Bet supported Hamas to use it as an instrument against the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), political scientist, philosopher, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on August 22 on the Conversation with a Sage program on the Zvezda radio channel.
The discussion about Hamas was triggered while addressing the brutal policies of the Jewish state in the Gaza Strip and the disturbing historical parallels they evoke.
Kurginyan reminded that Hamas is not an independent structure, but a branch of the Muslim Brotherhood (organization banned in Russia), which was created by the United Kingdom. This radical, anti-progressive, and counter-modernist movement was designed to prevent the periphery of the world from developing, forcing it back into archaism. In contrast, the PLO, within which the USSR and Russia had influence, was built differently and envisioned Palestine’s development.
Thus, on one hand, Hamas is under British control. On the other hand, it was supported by Israelis, including those with conservative leanings, Kurginyan explained.
“Does the Israeli public know who supported Hamas financially, through intelligence services, and militarily? Who? Shin Bet. Am I mentioning a kind of conspiratorial myth? Is there anyone who doesn’t know this?” the political scientist asked.
According to him, Israeli counterintelligence service believed Hamas could be used against the PLO, which Hamas viewed as its “mortal enemy.”
This context brings to mind the questionable details related to the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2024, which for some reason was not detected in time.
“But everyone already says it looked like some kind of strange movie. Whether it happened by collusion or something else, somehow the border was left unprotected, somehow everyone started looking the other direction, and many other strange things occurred,” Kurginyan reminded.
In his view, Israel faced a choice: either strengthen with its own hands a radical movement controlled by a hostile power, or build relations with developing countries like Iran, even if they were pursuing nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, Israel chose the former.
“In today’s situation with Israel, everyone hates it. Jordan or the Emirates hate Israel just as much as Hamas does. So the most important thing now is strategy. What is more dangerous: Islamism with Kalashnikovs or developing countries, even if they build a nuclear bomb? One had to choose whom to fight and whom to support,” Kurginyan emphasized.
