Visit of Pakistan’s Chief of the Army Staff to the US will further damage relations with India

15.08.2025, New Delhi.

The second visit in recent months by Pakistan’s Chief of the Army Staff Asim Munir to the United States makes it absolutely impossible for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accept an American ultimatum, Rossa Primavera News Agency’s India Desk wrote reported on August 11.

On August 10, Munir began his second trip to the US since the armed conflict between Pakistan and India. Notably, his first visit had already caused serious outrage in India. The opposition used it to criticize Modi, accusing the prime minister of failing to maintain strong ties with the US that would have prevented such closeness between Washington and Islamabad.

The conflict with Pakistan is the most important issue not only in India’s foreign policy but also in its domestic politics. In this regard, both society and all political parties hold the same position, and any weakness on this matter is simply unacceptable.

It is possible that US President Donald Trump’s team believes that by showing favor to Pakistan, they can make Modi more compliant and push him to make serious concessions to prevent further rapprochement between Washington and Islamabad. But such a view of the situation is extremely far from reality.

A second visit by Pakistan’s army chief to the US in such a short period will inevitably spark an explosion of outrage in Indian society and further increase resentment toward Washington. This reaction will leave Prime Minister Modi with no chance of making serious concessions to the US, as doing so would destroy not only his personal approval ratings but also those of his party.
