Israel intends to strengthen military control over the Syrian part of the Golan Heights, the state-run Kan television and radio company reported on December 8, citing its own sources.
According to the sources, the Israeli government has unanimously approved the invasion of ground forces into the buffer zone and seizure of dominant positions on the Golan Heights amid the deteriorating situation in Syria.
At the same time, the TV channel’s interlocutors explained that the issue of expanding control over this territory would be taken later. This will happen before “someone else enters the vacuum created”, the sources assured.
Earlier, the broadcaster reported that Israeli tanks crossed the buffer zone on the border with Syria to strengthen the defense of the Golan Heights. According to Kan, due to the situation in Syria, Israeli troops have started regrouping near the town of Quneitra. New positions are being formed in the buffer zone to strengthen the defense of the Golan Heights.
On December 8, representatives of terrorist armed groups went on air on Syrian state television and said that they had taken full control over Syria and its capital Damascus.
Sky News TV channel reported that Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that he was ready to hand over power in the country to terrorists peacefully. Al-Jalali said in a video message that the government is ready to “extend its hand” to the opposition and hand over its functions to the transitional government.
Later, Syrian Communications Minister Iyad al-Khatib said that the leadership of the operational headquarters of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham militants (organization banned in Russia) guaranteed the Syrian ministers the safety of their lives and health.
