US authorities lift ban on arms supplies to Ukrainian nationalists

The US administration lifted the ban on arms supplies to the Ukrainian nationalist battalion Azov (organization banned in Russia), the Washington Post newspaper wrote on June 11.

The US State Department said in a statement that the battalion had undergone a thorough inspection in accordance with the Leahy Law, under which Washington cannot provide military assistance to foreign units that have been found guilty of human rights violations.

The text posted by the publication emphasizes that the USA found no evidence of violations. Now the battalion will have access to the same US military assistance as any other unit.

The publication did not specify how long ago the ban was lifted or whether the nationalist unit had already received US weapons.

The Russian Supreme Court recognized Azov (organization banned in Russia) as a terrorist organization and banned its activities. According to the experts’ conclusion, the ideology of the national battalion includes extreme biological racism, plans for the legal segregation of other races, denial of democracy, morality and international law.
