09.06.2023, Moscow.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin proposed to create an emergency food fund, speaking at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council on June 8, the press service of the government reports.

“We consider it necessary to create a full-fledged system of operative monitoring of food security of all five countries and also to form an emergency food fund,” Mishustin said.

The prime minister noted that the Eurasian Economic Union fully provides itself with vegetable oil and grain, and this year it is also possible to achieve such results on several positions.

The Eurasian Economic Union’s potential allows it to provide agricultural products within the union, as well as to supply them for export, said the head of the Russian government.

In his speech on June 2, Mishustin stressed that agriculture is the backbone sector of Russian economy.

He noted that in agriculture, Rus has not only achieved growth (last year’s output grew by 10%) and ensured food security, but also increased export supplies (in 2022 their volume grew by 12%).
