Revenge for being called “clown”? Zelensky imposes sanctions against Syrian President Assad

18.03.2023, Kiev.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky imposed personal sanctions against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The decree was published on March 18 on Zelensky’s website.

The published decree said that the sanctions, which will be in effect for 10 years, include the blocking of assets, a ban on the withdrawal of capital outside Ukraine, the suspension of economic and financial obligations, and so on.

Zelensky also imposed sanctions against Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mikdad and Prime Minister Hussein Arnous.

Earlier, President Assad said that Zelensky behaves in politics like a comedy actor, and the Syrian people listen to his speeches as performances of a clown. The politician said ironically that clowns are sometimes necessary to de-escalate the situation.
