Kurginyan: The Russian army has preserved the spirit of service

16.03.2023, Aleksandrovskoye, Russia.

In the army and other structures related to risk, what people do is not a profession, but it is a devotional service, said political scientist, philosopher and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on March 10 on the program Conversation with a Sage on the Zvezda radio station.

The political scientist referred to his polemics with late Leonid Shebarshin, former head of the First Chief Directorate of the KGB of the USSR. It related to a statement that the most important characteristic of a security service officer is his professionalism. Professionalism was considered as a self-sufficient kind of ethics which does not need any supplements.

In the larger sense, what is the difference between a security service officer and a gangster?” Sergey Kurginyan noted. “There is no difference except that a security service officer is better trained; he can open safes better (he trained longer), he is more professional as a killer, but this cannot be ethics; a security service officer differs from a gangster not by his profession, but with his service.”

According to the expert, if serving is lacking, security services transform into large gang-type corporations, and they are even tougher than mafia.

The same applies to the army. “If there is no serving, there is nothing, and people feel this, the political scientist stressed.

In the Russian army, the concept of service was not completely destroyed in spite of the reforms and imitation of the NATO standards.

All the bravado like ‘I serve money’ that we know etc., it is in fact bravado by courageous people, who in fact understand very well that nothing can compensate for not only death but also for severe wounds, nothing but a direct and clear experience of service, i.e. engagement with something greater than yourself, Kurginyan concluded.
