Syria exempts earthquake victims from taxes

President Bashar Assad signed a decree on relieving the Syrian citizens who lost their homes due to the earthquake from taxes until the end of 2024. The press service of the Presidential Administration reported on March 12.

It is noted that the citizens of Syria who have lost their homes will also not be subject to fees for reconstruction of destroyed houses, as well as real estate belonging to them, including businesses, stores and offices.

It is indicated that the document affects residents of Aleppo, Idlib, Latakia and Hama. It is these cities that have been affected by severe destruction.

According to the Syrian authorities, such measures of assistance will allow the victims to recover and restore their living after the disaster.

The decree also prescribes a clause granting a deferral of repayment of bank loans. In this case, the victims will be able to take loans of up to $ 80 thousand with installment payments for up to 10 years.

The official number of victims of the earthquake in Syria was 414,304 people. At the same time the number of completely or partially destroyed houses was 4,444 buildings.
