Kurginyan: Russia has to exert enormous effort in order to keep the country together

Russia can sustain its statehood only through exerting tremendous efforts, said philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on November 13 during the Evening with Vladimir Solovyov TV program on the Russia One channel.

“We are not a prosperous country. We are simply at a disadvantage in terms of how vast our territory is, this is not what you would call a ‘comfortably situated’ country. We can preserve our state, which is immensely dear to us and beloved – only at the cost of extraordinary efforts. It is what it is.

There are people around us, our neighbors, who look with great appetite at our territory, at everything that we have. We have a low population density,” stressed Kurginyan.

Russians are used to their numbers still being numerous, noted the expert. This was the case in the days of the Russian Empire or the Soviet Union, but it is no longer the case.

Taking into account the current reality, Russia could sustain its statehood only through exerting enormous efforts, notes Sergey Kurginyan.

“If we find ourselves in such a situation already, then our way of life must be appropriate to this state of emergency. Everything, our entire way of life. Otherwise, we will not survive,” the analyst is insisting.

An adjustment to such a lifestyle is very much hindered by inertia; life continues as usual without any alteration, in regards to serious changes taking place around us, explained the philosopher.

“We continue to live without sensing the war,” Kurginyan paraphrased a poem by a famous Russia poet Osip Mandelstam (“We continue to live without sensing the country” – an editorial note). “Without sensing a disaster.”

The catastrophe is unfolding, which means that we have to identify those who oppose Russia, stressed the analyst. “For a moment, they dropped their facade and we had witnessed their hateful snarl.”
