Kurginyan: Russia refused to swallow Ukraine’s insult

28.10.2021, Moscow.

The deployment of US special operations forces to Moldavia and the seizure of a Russian national in Donbass by Ukrainian security services result in dangerous tension at the Russian border, said political scientist, philosopher and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on October 23 in an interview to the Union channel of Donetsk.

“God forbid my comparison to come true, but a world war began because of some archduke for whom nobody cared, and no one could expect that something could begin,” the political scientist reminded.

He expressed concern over the recent seizure of an LPR representative to the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of Ceasefire in Donbass Andrey Kosyak, who is a Russian national, by Ukrainian security services. The incident took place during Kiev-approved works in a military disengagement zone.

“Seizing a Russian national from a legitimate mission like that is something new, this did not happen before. And we must react to this, too,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement said.

He believes, what happened to Kosyak is an insult aimed at Russia.

[If] we overreact, we fall for provocation, [if] we fail to react, we swallow an insult. But we do not want to swallow it,” he explained.

Kurginyan also reminded US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s recent visit to Ukraine.

“What is he sounding out? Escalation of the conflict, of course. This is obviously what is  happening,” the political scientist noted. “For some reason, some hotels in Moldavia are full of US special operations forces servicemen. Is this a fact? It is. What the hell are they doing in Moldavia? What do they need there?”

Transdniestrian officials, he added, are reporting that this force is currently showing no aggression towards the Moldovan Transdniestrian Republic. Also, 500 servicemen are apparently not enough for an attack like that.

“What is the point? All we can understand so far is that they want to control something in Odessa if the Russians do something. In any event, someone had to send them there. These guys never travel on their own, they are not tourists,” Kurginyan said.

As the Rossa Primavera News Agency reported, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin said that potential integration of Ukraine into NATO would be a “red line” for the Russian Federation.

On October 19, the US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin arrived on a working visit in Kiev speaking about US’ “unwavering support” of the sovereignty and “Euro-Atlantic aspirations” of Ukraine. Besides, he accused Russia of unleashing the war in Donbass, and he indicated that no third country has a veto over NATO’s membership decisions.

The Spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said the tone of Austin’s statement was Russophobic.

“These statements directly encourage revanchist sentiments in the party of war in Kiev,” Zakharova noted.
