Chinese Ambassador: US undermining mutual trust between China and the US

On June 30, the Chinese Ambassador to the United States, Cui Tiankai, said that sale of arms to Taiwan will undermine mutual trust between China and the US, Interfax-Military News Agency reports.

“And all these actions – sanctions against Chinese companies and especially arms sales to Taiwan – will certainly undermine the mutual confidence between the two sides and runs counter to the spirit of the Mar-a-Lago summit,” Ambassador Cui Tiankai said at one of the receptions in Washington.

DIA afraid of Russian trolls and Russia Today TV-Channel

On June 29, the RIA Novosti News Agency reported that US Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in its report called Russia Today TV-Channel and the Sputnik Agency tools for influencing the Western public.

The DIA report says, that Russian propaganda aims to intimidate and demoralize, it also includes “bots and trolls on social media, search engine optimization, and paid journalists in Western and other foreign media”, the news agency quotes the report.

In June 2017, a bill against Russia Today‘s activity was introduced in the US Congress. Vladimir Dzhabarov, Deputy Chairman of the Council of the Federation Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation called the bill a “continuation of the witch hunts.” The senator noted that the US itself conducts information campaigns against Russia, in which they blame Russia. Vladimir Dzhabarov says, “Meanwhile, the Voice of America and other unfriendly organizations conduct anti-Russian propaganda, and they have been working freely in the Russian Federation for decades.”

In June 2016, the US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland spoke in the Senate about America’s purposeful training of journalists to influence Russian viewers. Victoria Nuland stated that the USA had workshops in Europe for journalists who had fled their country and those, who then want to return to their homeland. She also added that the US has supported a number of Russian-speaking news organization in the Baltic States and other countries sharing borders with Russia. These media target the Russian-speaking population of their respective countries and counter “Russian propaganda”. Moreover, the US supports Russian-language broadcasting in Ukraine, which is said to have some effect in Russia.

Religion in Kazakhstan: Secularism does not mean atheism

Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan, signed a decree that defines the concept of state policy in the sphere of religion for the period from 2017 to 2020, the official website of the Kazakh President reported on June 28.

The Concept outlines strategic goals and main directions of state policy in regards to religion.  It develops guidelines for the further evolution of the Kazakhstani model for cooperation between the state and religious denominations, and cooperation between different denominations in the state of Kazakhstan based on the unique characteristics of the Kazakhstani people’s historical and cultural heritage.

Kiev street renamed after Nazi war criminal

General Vatutin1 Avenue in Kiev will now bear the name of Roman Shukhevich, as the Ukrainian Minister of Culture Evgeniy Nischuk stated during the official ceremony dedicated to the 110th Birthday of Roman Shukhevich on June 30, Ukrinform, Ukrainian News Agency, reported on its webpage.

“All the court proceedings are behind, and, today, on the anniversary of Roman Schukhevich’s Birthday, Vatutin Avenue has been officially renamed Shukhevich Avenue,” Nischuk said.

Russian Foreign Ministry: The US is preparing to invade Syria

The US is planning to invade Syria justifying this with claims of possible chemical weapons use by the Syrian army against the civilian population, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on June 29, the TASS news agency reports.

According to Zakharova, the US’ statements about a hypothetical danger of chemical weapons use in Syria are part of an information campaign before an invasion. This is not the first time that the US have used this kind of a scenario.

“The scenario will be the same. An incident with civilian casualties will occur in an area under the militants’ control. The so-called opposition, i.e. jihadists who are essentially similar to ISIL or al-Qaeda [organizations banned in Russia ― Rossa Primavera News Agency] but who nevertheless receive aid from the US and their allies, will state that another ‘crime’ has been committed by the regime,” the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said.

Russian Ministry of Defense: Britain’s new aircraft carrier is an easy target

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov commented on the statements of UK Defense Secretary about the exterior beauty of the new British aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth, TASS news agency reports on June 29.

“Like with (Queen) bees, the British aircraft carrier is capable of merely releasing planes from its womb being surrounded by a swarm of warships, support vessels, and submarines to ensure its protection. <…> Unlike Aircraft cruiser Admiral Kuznetsov, which is equipped with multiple launches, anti-submarine, and most important, Granit anti-ship missiles, the British aircraft carrier is nothing more than just a huge easy naval target”, said the spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry, the Mirror reports.

Israeli Air Force attacked Syrian government forces

A missile strike against Syrian army mortar crew on Golan Hights was reported on 28 June by RIA Novosti news agency.

According to the IDF Press Service report, the strike was carried out in response to a shell, which hit the Israeli part of Golan Hights. The shell was supposedly fired from Syrian government forces side. No servicemen from both sides got hurt as a result of the incident.
