Russian Foreign Ministry: Staged chemical attack in Khan Shaykhun has clear political goals

On May 25, the Foreign Ministry of Russia in its commentary on the session of the UN Security Council held on May 23, which is published on the Ministry’s website, commented the results of another discussion around the alleged chemical attack in Idlib (Syria).

“A discouraging situation is emerging. Almost two months after the chemical incident, nobody seems to really bother to visit Khan Shaykhun in order to find out all the circumstances of such a high-profile case,” the Foreign Ministry says in its commentary. The authors emphasize that the Western side also refuses to visit the Shayrat airbase “where, according to their statements, the sarin gas used in Khan Shaykhun was supposedly stored,” the statement says. Largest Islamist attack on Deir ez-Zor in 2017 repelled

On May 26, defenders of the Syrian city of Deir ez-Zor repelled one of the largest attacks by ISIL militants (organization banned in Russia) in 2017, Al-Masdar News reports.

According to the news agency, several hundred militants participated in the attack, which took place during the night from 25 to 26 May. The militants tried to break through the eastern side of the Deir ez-Zor airbase perimeter. The airbase is located south of the government-controlled city, and it is cut off from it. During a ten-hour battle, militant attacks were repulsed. Syrian ATGM squads destroyed two of the terrorists’ BMP-1 infantry fighting vehicles. The militants’ night attack did not reach its goals; the Syrian army managed to keep all positions. Accurate data on the losses of militants and of the government troops is absent. But it is already known that an improvised missile launched by the ISIL terrorists (organization banned in Russia), killed two and injured ten civilians. Continue reading

Foreign militants take part in terrorist attack on Philippines

Filipino Solicitor General  Jose Calida claimed on May 26 that Indonesian and Malaysian mercenaries are fighting alongside the Maute group terrorists against the Philippine Army on the island of Mindanao.

At the news conference, Jose Calida said, “Before it was just a local terrorist group. But now they have sworn allegiance to the ideology of ISIL” (organization banned in Russia – Rossa Primavera News Agency).

Currently, the Army battles terrorists that have captured the southern city with a population of 200,000 people. The Army uses helicopters and special forces. Eleven soldiers and thirty-one militants are reportedly killed. Continue reading

Ukraine hiding the fate of 77 prisoners from the Donetsk People’s Republic

Daria Morozova, the Ombudswoman of the Donetsk People’s Republic (the DPR), said Kiev did not provide Donetsk with complete information regarding 77 prisoners of war, which may indicate their deaths, Interfax news agency reported on May 25.

Morozova blamed Kiev’s representatives for arriving at Minsk negotiations deliberately unprepared, thereby jeopardizing them. Continue reading

Russian Investigative Committee investigates the killing of Donbass residents

3 criminal cases have been initiated to investigate the killing of Donbass residents, a spokeswoman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, Svetlana Petrenko, said on May 25, TASS news agency reports.

“According to the investigation, on May 18, 20, and 21, the servicemen of the Ukrainian army and the National Guard fulfilled manifestly illegal orders received from superior officials of the Defense Ministry, having used heavy artillery of high destructive power for a targeted shelling of civil infrastructure facilities, which were not military targets, in the villages of Kominternovo and Spartak, as well as in the Petrovsky district of the city of Donetsk,” Colonel of Justice, Director of the Media Relations Department, Svetlana Petrenko said.
