“Essence of Time” unit in Donbass. The Beginning. Gazetchik

I was among the first 20 people who decided to join the “Essence of Time” mission assembled by Sergei Ervandovich Kurginyan in Donetsk in July 2014. My patriotic feelings, pride for our ancestors’ military and labour feats, and desire to restore our great country inspired me to do that. I knew that I could not calmly watch from the distance, or that I could help while being in a safe place, away from my native city Donetsk. And since I fully share the ideals, values, goals of the “Essence of Time” movement, my decision to join the mission was thrilling, but easy.

I’m a native and resident of Donetsk. My views on the current political processes in the former USSR formed a long time ago. I didn’t want to put up with the death of the Soviet Union, and was eager for its revival. However, I didn’t see the certain way to do this, or saw it only vaguely. Only after I found out about Sergei Ervandovich Kurginyan and what he did, things finally fell into place. Reading his works I constantly encountered development of my own thoughts about the present and the future. This is what prompted me to join in the “Essence of Time” movement and pulled me out of ordinary life.

War for Ukraine started for me long before the active combat in the South-East. A clear and distinct sign of war was the first so-called dispersion of maidan on the night of November 30-December 1. I realized what is happening and the slogan of our rallies in support of the Syrian people “Today they came for Syria, tomorrow they will come for Ukraine” is coming to life.

The events on the Maidan made me join the “Essence of Time” movement cell in Zaporozhye. The struggle against the forces, which seized power in Ukraine became a high priority in my life. Uprisings took place in Donetsk and Lugansk. As for Zaporozhye, an uprising there was unlikely. I wasn’t ready for underground struggle and didn’t believe that something could be done in my home town in the current situation.

After I had met with Sergei Ervandovich Kurginyan in Rostov, and after his appeal to go to Donetsk, I decided to come and help the “Essence of Time” cell there. I understood that I wouldn’t come back to my home town any time soon.

Being a member of the “Essence of Time” movement cell in Kiev I joined the fight with the Bandera fascism long before the Maidan. My comrades and I organized pickets and discussion clubs in the city where we tried to get it across to Kiev residents that it was Ukraine where the fascist Hydra was awakening. With the outbreak of the Maidan, our cell arranged purchase and delivery of everything necessary to the “Berkut”, which received the first blow of fascists on Grushevskogo street back in those days.

Recently Olga, a member of the “Essence of Time” movement cell in Donetsk, asked me whether I regret that I had left my former normal life and come to Donetsk. I remember I replied without hesitation that no, I don’t regret and I would do the same again. After all, two years ago fascists that seized power in my country made me choose: to put up with the occupation or to remain human and fight. At that time I was very influenced by Sergei Ervandovich Kurginyan’s (the leader of “Essence of Time” movement – Editor) words: when invaders come, some people meet them by rolling out the red carpet, by offering them bread and salt, others obediently bow their heads, but there are also people who become partisans. That’s why I had no hesitation when I heard his appeal: “Everyone who is ready to fight, go to the South-Eastern Ukraine.
