Aleksandr Zakharchenko: Local elections in DPR are a threat to Kiev

29.08.2015 08:29, Donetsk.

Local elections in Donetsk People’s Republic, along with the Minsk Agreements, are a threat to the current Ukrainian government, the head of DPR Aleksandr Zakharchenko has told RIA Novosti on Saturday.

Earlier the head of Donetsk People’s Republic has stated that the elections of heads of cities and regions of DPR will take place on October 18. He had explained this decision with the fact that Ukraine is unilaterally adopting the law “On local elections” without coordinating it with DPR and LPR. The content of this law “contradicts the letter and spirit of the Minsk Agreements“, according to the head of the republic.

I’d say that local elections in DPR present a threat to the illegitimate rule of Poroshenko and his accomplices, just like the Minsk process itself.

According to him, the only way Kiev can try to sabotage the elections in Donbass is by using military force. He added, that this attempt is nevertheless doomed to failure.

Intimidation tactics fail when used against DPR citizens. One and a half years of war later we got used to Ukrainian provocations. We are a free people and we are ready to defend our freedom, both in military and political ways.
