Lavrov: Referendums are response to Zelensky's attempt to oust Russians

22.09.2022, New York.

The referendums in Donbass, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions were a response to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s attempt to drive Russians out of Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a UN Security Council meeting on September 22.

During the meeting, Lavrov reminded Security Council members of a statement Zelensky made on August 5, in which the Ukrainian president, in harsh and threatening language, “advised anyone who feels Russian” to “get out to Russia.”

“I think that the decisions that the decisions of residents of a number of Ukraine’s regions to hold referendums are a response to his recommendation,” Lavrov remarked.
