Russian Senator proposes not to recognize the unification of Germany

20.09.2022, Moscow.

Russia should think about recognizing Germany’s unification as illegitimate, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian Federation Council Committee on Foreign Affairs Vladimir Dzhabarov wrote on his Telegram channel on September 20.

The senator commented on German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s statement that Germany will not recognize the referendums in the DPR and LPR.

“Let us now not to recognize of the absorption of another independent German state, the German Democratic Republic, by the Federal Republic of Germany. There was no referendum there, and no one was interested in the opinion of the GDR citizens,” Jabarov wrote.

The DPR and LPR authorities, followed by the administrations of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions announced the holding of referendums on their territories. Residents will be asked to answer the question about their attitude toward joining Russia as a state subject. The referendums will be held from September 23 to 27.

Shortly thereafter, Scholz said that Germany would not recognize referendums on the DPR, LNR and liberated areas of Ukraine joining Russia because they would not meet the “understanding reached by the world community.”
