18.07.2022, Moscow.

The battle for Seversk continues, Minister of Internal Affairs of the LPR Vitaly Kiselev told a TASS correspondent on July 18.

The joint forces have taken the city under operational control. However, the Ukrainian army continues shelling, especially from Kramatorsk. The battle continues in the city itself and at its outskirts.

Previously, Spokesman of the Defense Ministry of Russia Igor Konashenkov said that the Russian Aerospace Forces had almost completely destroyed the 115th mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian army, which operated near Seversk. Its casualties over two days amounted to about 600 people.

The Donetsk and the Lugansk People’s Republics asked Russia for help to repulse the aggression by the Ukrainian army in order to avoid civilian victims and a humanitarian catastrophe.

The Ukrainian army shelled residential areas of the cities of the republics damaging their infrastructure. For example, the water supply system of Donetsk was partially disabled.

The republics began to evacuate civilians to Russia. Russia recognized the independence of the republics, and shortly afterwards it began a military operation against the Ukrainian army.

Strikes on military targets in Ukraine were made, and Russian troops entered it territory.

The Ukrainian military and members of the nationalist battalions are entrenched in the cities, and they use civilians as human shields placing weapons, including heavy ones, in residential areas. The Russian army has been ordered to avoid casualties among civilians and damage to the infrastructure. The USA and other Western countries supply weapons to Ukraine. In particular, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the United States would supply to Ukraine 10 Javelin anti-tank missiles per each Russian tank.
