Maduro: Venezuela's exclusion from the Summit of the Americas was a "big mistake"

09.06.2022, Caracas.

More than 25 governments of the region opposed Venezuela’s exclusion from the Summit of the Americas organized by the Organization of American States (OAS) in Los Angeles, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said, Últimas Noticias reported on June 8.

According to Maduro, Venezuela, along with Nicaragua and Cuba, are “the anti-imperialist countries of Latin America and the Caribbean.”

“This Summit of the Americas has turned into a meeting of protest by governments against exclusion, and the US empire has been taught a lesson that … the time of imperial orders has passed,” he said.

He said the US authorities’ attempt to exclude Venezuela was “a big mistake.” “Unfortunately, this so-called Summit of the Americas has gradually deteriorated from a political and diplomatic point of view. These summits are not discussing the important issues, the priority issues of the peoples, the main problems that we have” the president of Venezuela stressed.

The IX Summit of the Americas is held from June 6 to 10 in the US city of Los Angeles under the auspices of the Organization of American States. At the same time, some heads of the states of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the presidents of Mexico and several other Latin American countries said they would not attend the summit if Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela are not invited to the event.
