Rescued hostages: Neo-Nazis at Azovstal have long been out of Kiev's control

05.05.2022, Mariupol.

The neo-Nazis hiding in tunnels under the Azovstal plant have long been beyond the control of the Kiev regime and hope only for help from the West, the civilians who were freed from the plant’s basement told RIA Novosti journalists on May 5.

“They said that Kiev and Zelensky are far away, he doesn’t solve anything and can’t, even if he wanted to. Their only hope is the Americans or the British,” said one of the liberated residents of Mariupol.

The remnants of a group of Ukrainian Nazis and foreign mercenaries were forced out of the city limits of Mariupol and hid in the bunkers and basements of the Azovstal plant.

According to the Russian military, the Ukrainian authorities forbade the Nazi remnants to surrender and ordered them to sit there until last.

Some civilians and factory workers took refuge in shelters controlled by neo-Nazis from the Azov nationalist battalion (organization banned in the Russian Federation). After that, they were actually held hostage by the militants, who tried to use them as human shields and demanded that the Russian and DPR units stop attacking them.
