Russian Defense Ministry: Militants from Idlib are heading to Ukraine

Militants from the Caucasus and Albania are heading from Syrian Idlib to Europe to take part in the military actions in Ukraine. Rear Admiral Oleg Zhuravlev, deputy head of the Russian Russian Centre for reconciliation of opposing sides in the Syrian Arab Republic (CROS) in Syria, said this, the Ministry of Defense television channel Zvezda informed on March 4.

“The CROS is receiving information that militants of Albanian and Caucasian origin are leaving the territory of the Idlib de-escalation zone for Europe in order to further participate in military actions on the territory of Ukraine,” the TV channel quoted Zhuravlev as saying.

The Centre for Reconciliation also said that two Syrian servicemen were killed as a result of the artillery shelling of the positions of government forces near the Kuljok settlement in Latakia by militants from the Karamanli area.

On February 24, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the launch of a special military operation aimed at protecting the residents of Donbass, as well as the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. At the same time, the Russian leader stressed that there was no question of military occupation of Ukraine. The Russian military department also reported that Russian troops do not attack peaceful cities.
