Kurginyan speaks about achievements and risks of special operation in Ukraine

03.03.2022, Moscow.

The fact that the Russian air force completely controls the air in Ukraine is beyond any doubt, said philosopher, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan in a new issue of The Meaning of the Game broadcast published on the movement’s YouTube channel on March 1.

Previously, the Spokesman of the Russian Defense Ministry Igor Konashenkov said that the Russian military had gained air superiority in Ukraine. According to Konashenkov, the Russian military has destroyed 1,114 Ukrainian military infrastructure targets.

“Is the official information provided by the Russian Defense Ministry indisputable when it says that the Russian military has complete air superiority in its special operation in Ukraine? Yes, this information is strictly official as well as indisputable,” Kurginyan noted.

The political scientist stressed that even the most ardent and untruthful adversaries of Russia “talking nonsense” about casualties or failure of the operation on the whole acknowledge the total dominance in the air.

“Everyone acknowledges this. But if so, what kind of failure of our special operation are they talking about?” he indicated, adding that this fact alone is sufficient to state that “it is positive results that dominate” in the progress of the Russian military’s special operation in Ukraine.

“Is air superiority a key factor of such a positive assessment? Yes, it is. Because such domination in the air prevents the Ukrainian army from any regular major countermeasures against our special operation,” he continued.

The political scientist reminded that in the 21st century a regular army cannot effectively resist if the enemy totally dominates in the air. “Guerrillas can resist, but not a regular army, which is meant to undertake regular military countermeasures.” The point is that, Kurginyan stressed, “such countermeasures would be immediately suppressed using air superiority.”

“This is the reality of the 21st century. But it was similar in the age of World War Two, in the middle of the 20th century,” he indicated. “In the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, the German air force dominated to a major extent, and this affected the progress of the hostilities very seriously.”

“But the Soviet army never surrendered the air to the enemy completely. Our air force always kept fighting for air superiority. This fight was increasingly successful year after year during the Great Patriotic War. And it became completely successful by 1944, when the Germans lost the air almost totally. This effectively was the end of the German regular army,” the political scientist added.

However, the political scientist also indicated a number of problematic issues associated with the current operation, such as the need for “overcoming any cocksure sentiments.”

“A sensible view of the macro-social process, as I see it, is that actually the fraternity ― such a dashing and furious fraternity of the Ukrainian and the Russian people ― will resemble the proletarian fraternity that was hoped for before the Great Patriotic War. There were hopes that the German proletariat would rise up against Hitler for starting a war against the first proletarian state. Fortunately, those hopes faded out before 1941, otherwise the film ‘Aleksandr Nevsky’ and many other things would have never appeared,” the political scientist said.

“We should not expect a fraternity of the peoples and celebration of liberation from the Banderite scum. In some places this will happen, and we should strongly welcome it and be grateful. But in other places a different thing will happen: strong grievances, increased local nationalism, its extension to other groups of population, and a tenacious and careful system of actions capable of transforming an assault and pressure into something else. This something else is what we should prepare for,” Kurginyan stressed,

Kurginyan pointed out that even discussing such scope of issues he does not question that the special operation is necessary.

“I want to draw your attention to the context, the specificity of the Russian-Ukrainian relations in the 21st century,” he indicated, adding that such specificity is the underestimated problem number one, and it has to be resolved.

Another difficulty associated with the current operation is, as Kurginyan called it, “excessive, in my opinion, optimism regarding the potential of our information and propagandist system on the whole.”

Further, another problem arises, which is linked to the excessive optimism. This difficulty is “a strong confidence that not only informational, but also political system is capable of reacting to rapidly growing pressure, both informational and political, without any transformation.”

“The authorities have not lost the street yet, but they have stopped neither anti-military initiatives of the media involved nor anti-military initiatives of related street activists. And most importantly, they have not found a language and persuasion to really affect these media and these street activists,” the politician and political scientist stressed.

“Any cocksure sentiments on this issue are a mistake, and because they are a mistake, anything impeding the success of the special operation will have to be suppressed. Is it undemocratic? Maybe. But we have to do so. We must not lose this special operation. The stakes are too high. It is about life and death of our people,” Kurginyan added.

On February 18, the DPR and the LPR initiated the evacuation of civilians to Rostov region due to the threat of a major military aggression by Kiev. At the same time, the Western leaders of falsely accused Russia of shelling the territory of Donbass in order to blame it on the Ukrainian military.

Therefore, on February 21, President of Russia Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the DPR and the LPR in response to the request for help from the leaders of the republics. However, over many months the West had been accusing Russia of preparing invasion of Ukraine. The information campaign started with a number of articles in major Western outlets followed by statements of US and NATO top officials.

At the same time, negotiations on a treaty of mutual security guarantees between Russia, the USA, and NATO came to a standstill. According to the Russian diplomats, this blocked any negotiations on other global security issues as well.
