Damascus: Countries that have supported the war in Syria have no right to condemn Russia

28.02.2022, Damascus.

The Western countries, which supported the wars in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, have no right to talk about international law and in general to touch upon the notion of conscience, said Luna al-Shibl, special advisor to the President of Syria, in an interview with RIA Novosti on February 28.

“Countries that have killed millions of people since the Korean War, then in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq, and today in Syria and Ukraine, have no right to talk about international law, legitimacy or conscience. They have turned the world into a jungle where the strong eat the weak. Therefore, Russia not only has the right, but is obliged to defend itself,” said Luna al-Shibl.

On February 21, Putin convened an urgent meeting of the Security Council on the issue of recognizing the independence of the Donbas republics. During his address to the Russian people, the head of state announced his recognition of Donbass’ independence from Ukraine and signed agreements with the heads of the republics.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided on a special military operation in Donbass. The decision was made after the heads of the Donetsk and Luhansk people’s republics appealed for help.
