Military expert: "Miracle weapons" do not help Ukraine

24.02.2022, Moscow.

The Western “miracle weapons” did not help Ukraine, military expert and editor of the magazine Arsenal of the Fatherland Aleksey Leonkov said to Rossa Primavera News Agency.

“Neither Bayraktars, nor Javelins, nor other miracle weapons, about which Ukraine spoke, they did not show themselves in any way,” the expert noted.

Leonkov explained that the combat tasks continue now. The entire Ukrainian-Russian border has gone under the control of the Russian Federal Security Service, and it has been surrendered almost without a fight. Reportedly, two aircraft, one helicopter, and four Turkish-made Bayraktar strike operational-tactical drones have been shot down.

“The Russian operation to demilitarize Ukraine – that is, to deprive it of the ability to carry out terrorist and genocidal actions in the Donbass – continues,” Leonkov said.

Since the morning, Russia began using high-precision weapons against military facilities, the military infrastructure of Ukraine. First of all, air defense positioning areas, radar stations were destroyed, then fuel and lubricant depots, ammunition depots, and military airfields, headquarters, and communication nodes were hit. A total of 74 objects were attacked, said the military expert.

“In parallel, a counteroffensive operation in Donbass began. Counteroffensive because the Ukrainian army was the first to launch an attack. Its units near the line of contact went on the attack at 11.20 p.m. from several directions, wanting to break through the defense,” Leonkov explained.

According to him, the Ukrainian troops did not expect that they would face a well-organized, echeloned defense of the defenders of Donbass. As a result, the offensive failed to succeed and was stopped, followed by counterattacks. As a result, reports are appearing that the defenders of Donbass are liberating some villages, combat is going on. Part of the Ukrainian army has surrendered, and some Ukrainian militants are asking for a humanitarian corridor to cross the border into Russian territory.

On February 17, a sharp escalation began in Donbass on the part of Ukraine – the intensity of the shelling intensified, in fact everything was moving toward full-scale war.

The heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin to recognize their independence. On February 21, Putin convened an urgent meeting of the Security Council on the issue. During the address to the Russian people, the leader of the state announced that he would recognize the independence of Donbass from Ukraine. The corresponding agreements were signed with the heads of the republics on the same day in the Kremlin.

On February 24, the Russian president announced that he had decided on a special military operation in Donbass. The decision was also made after the heads of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics appealed for help.
