Sergey Kurginyan gives two scenarios for the Ukrainian crisis

Two scenarios for the situation in Ukraine are currently possible, political scientist, philosopher, and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on January 25 in an analytical program The Meaning of the Game, published on the movement’s YouTube channel.

Kurginyan stressed that none of the Russian elite has any intention of invading Ukraine. However, the US never gets tired of warning about such a possibility.

It is impossible to imagine, neither sober nor drunk, that we would suddenly break in there, just like that, out of nowhere. Nobody wants that: neither the patriotic-conservative part of the elite, nor the centrist part, nor the liberal part. The Americans, however, are screaming about it like hell,” the analyst pointed out.

Why are they yelling so loud? This is a costly large-scale information operation. Why is it being carried out? Do they believe in our invasion? <…> So what are we talking about? That the Americans want to put us in a situation where we can’t avoid making a move, one way or another,” he added.

In his opinion, the first scenario of events in Ukraine is a provocative one. It means that Russia will be forced into a military clash as a result of Kiev’s direct military actions in Donbass.

They want to create this situation, and this situation is in their hands. It can be thuggish and petty, or flashy and excessive, in case Zelensky is told to move on, clean up Donetsk and Lugansk, come there with tanks, nationalist battalions and all the rest. Blood will begin to flow, and then no one, I mean Russia’s current political elite, will be forced to respond with the necessary actions on Russia’s part,” Kurginyan stressed.

The second option, the analyst believes, is softer and much more dangerous. His idea is that Ukraine will not be brought into NATO de jure, but will be made part of it de facto, that is, weapons and other resources will be placed on Ukrainian territory.

However, the “cornerstone position” of the Russian elite is that it cannot allow the deployment of NATO strategic installations in Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk. Kurginyan pointed out that Russian officials talk about “red lines” without their usual laid-back attitude.

The pattern then begins to form. It consists of the fact that the Americans know that they have every opportunity in their hands to provoke the Russians to respond, or, more precisely, to put them, the Russians, in a situation in which they have no chance to avoid responding. They know that this lever, this button is in their hands, and that’s why they are yelling in advance that there will be a conflict, knowing that they control it and that they will start it,” said the political analyst.

The whole program is devoted to the US and NATO provoking the conflict in Ukraine and the possible ways out of this situation.
