Kurginyan on civilizational seams: What was Soviet became Russian

18.01.2022, Moscow.

Radical ethnocratism, combined with regress and rejection of the Russian and Soviet past, inevitably exposes civilizational seams, political scientist, philosopher, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said in the installment of The Meaning of the Game program about the events in Kazakhstan, published on January 8 on YouTube.

“The main point is that any radical-regressive ethnocratism with the oblivion of the Russian and Soviet past inevitably exposes civilizational seams. And then the civilizational Russian field includes the Crimea, the Donbass, and something else, and one cannot cancel this. Just as you cannot cancel the shift of lithospheric plates,” he said.

According to the philosopher, the restoration of Russia as an empire is necessary, because only on this basis can humanity be saved.

Kurginyan noted that Russia is involved in the tectonic process. And even if the changes that the process brings are visible only after a decade, this does not mean that the process is slow. The political scientist considers it “colossal” in terms of energetics, very fast, and “imminent”.

Sergey Kurginyan stressed that in the complex post-Soviet imperial space, which is backed by civilizational specifics from underneath, it is very difficult to start creating modern nations at once. He stressed in this regard that nations themselves are the subject of modernization and its product at the same time.

Philosopher believes that modernization of the former Soviet Union countries in the post-Soviet period has become impossible, and all talks about it are “a fiction”.

The large-scale protests in Kazakhstan began in early January 2022, when residents of the western cities of Zhanaozen and Aktau were out on the streets, demanding the cancellation of a two-fold price increase of liquefied petroleum gas.

After a short time, the protests spread to most of the country, including Alma-Ata and the capital Nur-Sultan (formerly Astana). Armed militants seized government institutions and seized weapons from soldiers and National Security Committee (KNB) armories.

The Kazakhstan authorities declared a state of emergency until January 19 and a counter-terrorism operation.
