Expert: NATO expansion is a strategy; no guarantees will cancel it

15.01.2022, Moscow.

The expert of the Experimental Creative Center Foundation (Kurginyan Center) Yury Bardakhchiev said on January 14 in a commentary for Rossa Primavera News Agency that one should not yield West’s promises not to expand NATO.

“NATO expansion is a fundamental process, a long-term one, designed not for a year or even a decade.” Yury Bardakhchiev explains. “This is a fundamental strategy of the alliance which dates back to the post-war period and consists in encircling Russia by the chain of military bases as tightly as possible.”

He pointed out that this strategy was once called Anakonda Rings. “Now, perhaps, it is called otherwise, but its essence has not changed. So it seems to me that no agreement, even written down and legally binding, will cancel this strategy,” he specified.

The expert stressed that the West can give Russia some guarantees, but it is unlikely to comply with them. “Russia is too huge and strong and therefore scary for the West to trust any guarantees,” Yury Bardakhchiev explained.

The analyst believes that when seeking these guarantees from the West, one should understand and keep in mind that all of this is temporary, and the NATO offensive will definitely continue.

“The problem, as always, is in our elite, oriented towards the West, which will shout that the West has agreed to the agreements, so let’s merge with it in a brotherly embrace and disarm. We must not succumb to this in any case,” the expert stressed.
