The alliance between the economic power of China and the military power of Russia causes fears on the part of the United States, the military expert, editor of the Arsenal of the Fatherland magazine Aleksey Leonkov said in his commentary to Rossa Primavera News Agency on December 30.
“China is now catching up with the United States in its level of development and will soon overtake it, if one doesn’t try to stop it. That is why China is creating serious competition to the United States in the economy. Unfortunately, militarily, it does not. Unfortunately for China and to the delight of the Americans. That’s why Americans were most afraid of an alliance between Russia and China,” Aleksey Leonkov said.
The expert noted that the possibility of an alliance between the military power of Russia and the growing economic power of China has caused and is causing fears of the US. Work to create conditions for confrontation between Russia and China has been carried out since the mid-1990s.
“Then the Americans worked very hard to make Russia an unconditional opponent of China, to use Russia to contain China in the case of its economic expansion. It did not work, because we figured out this game on the part of the Americans,” the expert stressed.
According to Leonkov, the Russian authorities became aware of the US competition with Russia for influence in Europe, and the futility of the idea of Russia joining NATO was realized.
“We wanted to solve the issue of confrontation between Russia and Europe once and for all. But it turned out that they hated us, and they still do. I’m not talking about Europe, but about those who stand behind Europe,” he said.
Earlier, Sergey Lavrov, head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, said on the air of “Solovyov LIVE” that Russia cannot join NATO, which was discussed in the 1990s, and stressed the competitive nature of its relations with the West in the international arena.
