Has the EU figured out how to explain all the problems with gas shortages? Opinion

27.12.2021, Moscow.

All energy problems in the EU are brought to a gas shortage, the cause of which is allegedly the actions of Gazprom, according to a Rossa Primavera News Agency editorial published on December 26.

German news magazine Focus earlier has written that Europe is likely to face an acute shortage of energy resources this winter because Russia is the sole gas supplier.

According to Focus, Gazprom controls gas prices in Europe. The paper notes that supplies via the Russian-European pipeline Yamal to Europe were stopped on December 21, and as a result, Poland is being supplied with gas from storage facilities in Germany.

According to the news magazine, the overall shortage of energy resources can be compensated by imports of liquefied natural gas from the United States, as well as the commissioning of nuclear power units in France. About a quarter of France’s 56 nuclear power units shut down for maintenance and repairs are scheduled to return to service.

“The article completely withdraws from consideration the structure of the European Union’s energy balance as well as other gas suppliers to Europe, and all energy problems are reduced to gas shortages, the cause of which is the actions of Gazprom.

The issues of power generation by nuclear power plants, coal-fired power plants, and fuel oil-fired power plants were not addressed, and many of these plants have been eliminated under pressure from green energy lobbyists that is in turn a consequence of the energy policy pursued in Europe.

Focus also ignores gas supplies from Norway and Algeria, whose supply are comparable to those of Gazprom.
