Scientist: Poland has no moral right to speak on behalf of Europe

14.12.2021, Moscow.

Russia, unlike Poland, adheres to classical European values, Deputy director of the Institute for Strategic Studies and Forecasts of the Russian Academy of Sciences Pavel Feldman said in his commentary to Rossa Primavera News Agency on December 13.

The political scientist commented on the statement of Polish Prime Minister Morawiecki that the Russian-German gas pipeline Nord Stream – 2 is “an instrument of Russian domination over Central-Eastern Europe” and that Russia should choose whether “it wants to be with Europe or against Europe.”

“Probably, Mr. Morawiecki by misunderstanding or by malice puts Russia on a par with the countries of Eastern Europe, of which Poland itself belongs. He is unaware of the geopolitical uniqueness of Russia as a great bridge between Europe and Asia, ensuring global stability,” political scientist Pawel Feldman commented on the statement of the Polish prime minister.

The deputy director of the Institute for Strategic Studies added that it is Russia, and not many countries of the European Union, that still follow “traditional Western values” to a much greater extent. At the same time, during the migration crisis on the border with Belarus, Poland showed that it itself “does not have the moral right to call itself Europe” because of the inhuman treatment of with refugees by Polish border guards, the scientist said.

Polish Prime Minister Morawiecki made his statement, in which he demanded severe sanctions against Russia, on December 11 in an interview to the newspaper La Repubblica. On December 12, after talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, he said that Poland had not lost hope of preventing the launch of the pipeline.
