The Soviet Union could have been saved even at the late stage, said analyst, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan, in the Objektivno program on the Belarusian ONT TV channel on December 8.

The political analyst stressed that the trends that led to the collapse of the Soviet Union in the late 1980s, could have been stopped. “All of this could have been stopped very simply, and the project could have started developing in the right direction,” Kurginyan stressed.

It was enough to slightly turn the steering wheel and punish those who were guilty,” the analyst said. He noted that in his analytical notes on the crisis in the Transcaucasus, he suggested to seriously punishing those responsible for fomenting the conflict on both sides and imposing martial law.

Five hundred people might have suffered, and well deserved, but the processes that brought grief to millions and millions would have been stopped,” Kurginyan stressed.

And Central Asia? And Tajikistan alone? Everyone said that the tear of one child is not worth the highest goals. How many children did I see with their skin peeled off, infants? How many mutilated corpses did we see? How many people have been hurt in the end?” – reminded the political scientist.

He also noted that a great number of Russians were expelled from the former Soviet republics or were deprived of their rights.

On December 8, it will be 30 years since the signing of the Belovezhye Agreements, which effectively destroyed the Soviet Union.
